The iPad is a lot of things to a lot of people. Some prefer to use it to manage their daily lives. Other use it as their mobile entertainment center. And there are some iPad owners who use their device as an educational tool. The iPad can be quite a life-saver for the student of science. Take astronomy apps for example. We have seen too many of them on iPhone. But the experience one gets on an iPhone is pretty limited as the small screen does really take away from the fun. That’s where Distant Suns for iPad comes in to play. It’s a powerful astronomy application for iPad that enables you to explore the stars and pick up new knowledge in the process without needing a super expensive astronomy tool. Distant Suns is quite popular among iPhone owners, but it gets a whole new life on iPad.

Distant Suns comes with over 130,000 objects that you can explore on your iPad. It also covers 88 constellations with images and articles about their significance. The app is compass aware, so you can just point it to the sky to identify the objects that you are looking at. The app is GPS aware as well, so it should work fine with iPad 3G (though we have not tested it yet).

Distant Suns covers all 8 planets and Pluto. It also provides a ton of data about the objects you see in the sky. So learning never has to end. I also like the fact that you get to customize how objects are shown on your iPad (see below screen-shot).

All in all, Distant Suns gives a whole new meaning to exploring the skies on a handheld device. The iPad is no ordinary handheld device. Distant Suns is designed to take advantage of the positives of the iPad. It has a quite attractive design and has ton of information for students of astronomy. If you are into astronomy, Distant Suns is worth a serious look.

I like using tech devices, but am not at all fond of installing or figuring out new devices. Fortunately, I have teenagers who do like to do that sort of thing. I did look at the instructions before they took off to get it hooked up, and it really did look easy.

Wi-Ex includes all the necessary parts (base unit, antenna, power supply, cable, mounting bracket) and there are only a couple of steps to getting the zBoost started. It’s very user friendly.

It seems pretty amazing to me that this one device increases the cell signal for anyone who is nearby. There’s no need to attach anything extra to my phone or set up passwords to access the extra signal. The signal is stronger for me and for others who enter ‘my zone.’ And since the signal is stronger, my phone uses up less battery power. This is so much easier than taking the phone outside to try to get a signal or walking around your home or office to try to find a good spot for cell reception.

Pink Parchment Soaps has some familar fragrances and some that are very distinctive. They’ve even got several varieties of soap made with beer and one called Chocolate Heaven. Some are neutral solid colors and others are bright or multi-colored. There’s something for everyone.

They have lots of nice girly scents, but I chose to try 3 soaps that work well for me and for the guys in the house.

• Lemon Verbena – especially good for the guys
• Spicy Chai Tea – smells delicious
• Ginger Lime – pretty green color, energetic scent

Each one of these is wonderful! The scents are strong and are exactly what I expected from the names. The bars are solid and made to last a long time. The gentle ingredients clean well and don’t irritate our skin.

Visioneer has a full range of scanners, but they are really much much more than ‘just scanners.’ I hadn’t looked at scanners for a long time and am amazed at the things that they can do. You can scan, organize and then use the information you’ve scanned.

Their mobile scanners are perfect for people who work on the go and for people who have home offices. They are compact and portable, but have amazing capabilities. Visioneer can scan receipts, photographs, documents, business cards and more.

But it goes beyond just scanning the image. I can scan the image and it looks just like the image complete with logos/graphics, but the text is automatically converted to pdf form. So the items I scan can be searched, organized, shared…. like other pdf files. Since I just completed my taxes (featuring a big box of messy, faded, disorganized receipts), I am seeing how much easier this will be with Visioneer. After I quickly scan the receipts, I can get rid of the paper and it will be much easier to organize and use them.

The RoadWarrior is a powerful little mobile scanner. It’s small enough to fit in a laptop bag and only weighs 10.6 ounces. The USB power cord makes it easy to scan wherever you are. It will scan receipts and business cards. The business card information can instantly & accurately be transferred to your contact manager (outlook, PDA, smart phone….) And it can also scan larger documents up to 8.5″ x 14″. The RoadWarrior is a great tool for business, personal and school uses.

I got to try out another one of their mobile products – the Strobe 500 Mobile Duplex Color Scanner Plus Docking Station. It has a lot of the same convenience and features of the RoadWarrior but takes it a step further. The scanner is totally portable and can use either a regular or USB power cord. When I’m at home, I can use it’s docking station for more desktop-type features, such as the 20 page automatic document feeder. It can scan 30 double sided images in 1 minute! The scanner fits easily in my laptop bag. The docking station is also quite small when the tray and feeder are “folded” up, so it’s also portable if I’m going to need it when I’m out.

You can check out all the technical specs of these and their other products online. The tech stuff is not my area of expertise. Usually, I have my teens set up new tech devices and then I just deal with the practical and fun business of actually using the product. The setup did involve some stress and some cursing, but once I got over the shock of doing it by myself it was really very easy to get it installed and up and running. And I am quite pleased that I was able to do this ALL BY MYSELF!!!!!!

Visioneer’s technology is impressive. I’m pleased with the basic features and the ability to do things I didn’t think were possible from a home or mobile scanner.

Intuition. iPhone App for Busy Moms! {iPod Touch Giveaway}

Life is already busy enough for me and I only have one child! I am sure that as soon as September rolls around I am going to find myself running in several different directions! Even with very young children you have to coordinate things like doctor's appointments (yours and theirs), preschool, work, the grocery store, and more. Sometimes I feel as if there is not enough time in one day to accomplish all the tasks that I need to get to.

I rely on my iPhone for just about everything, so why not use it to help organize my life? Intuition is a new app by Icon Apps that has some really great features. The best thing about it: FREE! For a free organizational app it really does pack in a ton of useful things. You can organize your different tasks by category which I find very helpful. Maybe you have a slew of phone calls to make. Organize them under the "calls" category. My favorite category is the "grocery shopping" category. This will actually allow you to make out a grocery list to take with you to the store. The only problem I have is that my iPhone usually also doubles as a distraction for my three year old in the grocery store. So all I have to do is Email the list to myself using the share feature!

The Calendar is great because it organizes your items based on time and date. For instance, if you have missed your hair appointment, it is going to let you know that this is over due! It also lists for you what is coming up. You can even sync this calendar to your Google Calendar! If you have tasks and things on your calendar that you need to share with others, that is also included in this app. Intuition makes it simple for you to share via Email, Facebook, or Twitter with friends and family. Maybe you are going to be running a little late. Just send a quick email to your husband letting him know that he will need to pick up the kids from school. If you are like me and do not like to run in circles around town, just use the map feature that shows you where your tasks and appointments are on one calendar. You can even see what is nearby if you are looking for something in particular.

I also really love the Community Tips available with Intuition. You can browse through categories like "Kid's Activities," "Home Improvement," and more. Check out different ideas that fellow Intuition users have submitted. The fun part is that you can submit your own! Running across the bottom of the Intuition App are several different money saving offers that might be appealing to moms as well as clever quotes. You can also find clip-less coupons to use while you are in the store!
